Honda Civic Hatchback 2020

2020 Honda Civic Price, Specs, Review and Pictures

Just when everyone – or, maybe only auto fanatics – thought Honda had nosedived, their 2016 twist proved ‘us’ wrong. About a decade before, Civics’ designs weren’t anything remarkable.

An Overview

With a practical interior, swift driving experience, and flexible versions, the 2020 Honda Civic is, perhaps, worth somewhat more than you imagined.

The model comes in different variants – hatchback, Sedan, and Coupe. Impressively, they are all highly efficient and, more so, affordable.

The different versions of the new Civic feature amazing technology and safety add-ons, making it one of the safe car options. Besides, the base engines and turbocharged addition offer decent power and a decent fuel economy system.

The 2020 model offers you two transmission options – the six-speed manual and the continuously variable transmission (CVT), widely referred to as stepless or shiftless transmission.

What’s new with the 2020 Civic?

The 2020 Honda Civic Coupe and Sedan variants’ maintained some features from the 2019 model. This isn’t the same for the Hatchback which had some style twist, rearranged trim levels, and a handful of new features.

The 2020 Civic Hatchback comes with new wheels, front and rear bumpers, headlights, and grille. The interior trim is slightly modified with more soundproof-tech to deaden the cabin noise.

Again, the Sports hatchback spots a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment technology with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration system as well as a push-button start and keyless entry.

Remember the six-speed manual transmission was only obtainable with Sport hatchbacks? The Sport Touring model has followed suit.

How Does the Interior Feel?

2020 Honda Civic is designed with users’ comfort in mind. The spacious interior, thin pillars, and low dashboard offer drivers and passengers a fun experience. The interiors are garnished with top-quality materials. Whether you prefer a high or low sitting position, your craving is well captured.

Typical of Civics, the seats are flat, but with well-styled upholstery and decent cushion. Both the civic Type R and Si have more active bolsters at the front seat that offers a snug hold – though not too firm to make you feel poked or pinched.

Common with all Honda Civics, this version comes with a display screen for the speedometer, tachometer, and other driving information.

Low-trim models are designed with a relatively compact screen with old-school knobs and buttons for easy navigation through the functions. It comes with a USB port, Bluetooth, and a media player which, sadly, does not support Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

The other version has a 7-inch touchscreen display with volume knob and physical buttons. Sadly, the sluggish user interface is not user-friendly. Thankfully, this version supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Size

Wondering how big the 2020 Honda Civic is? Considerably large – not in competition with some larger compact models, though. On the outside, however, its overall height may stand an inch or two lower than other cars in the compact size.

Besides, compared to other cars in its class, the Civic is considered light-weighted. The spacious interior offers decent space for passengers and cargo – as with cars in the midsize range.

The head- and leg-room are exceptionally comfy, giving remarkable coziness to passengers of all sizes. The coupe also offers close roominess, which is atypical of cars in its spectrum.

The Civic also allows for storage of small items with its brilliant center console which spots a deep bin, spacious grippy area for mobile devices as well as a sliding cup holder. The hatchback and sedan variants offer top standard car room for large items.

Typical of the Hatchback, it comes with a trunk-like cargo area, deeper than obtainable with Volkswagen Golf —though with less height, which is perhaps a reasonable trade-off.

Performance

The Civic comes with a four-cylinder engine and a powerful but pricey turbocharge which can be well termed “terrific.” Although the swift action of the six-speed manual seems preferable to the continuously variable auto transmission, the later remains a top-in-class.

Civic does a great balance between drivers’ engagement and comfort. Its driving dynamics and responsive steering offers a smooth ride —  pilots’ joy indeed. Civic’s ride is considered neither harsh nor crushy, offering apt quality.

If you seek a sportier vibe, then you may opt for the sports versions — they spot faster steering.  Even with its firm brake pad, they still leave much to be desired, compared to competitors’.

Fuel Economy

It’s amazing how well Honda convincingly captures power and fuel economy in one unit. Although the four-cylinder is frugal in fuel consumption, the power-packed turbocharged engine does better fuel efficiency than the 2.0-liter in lower-version Coupes and Sedans.

Sadly, the fuel economy, in real life, doesn’t seem as claimed.

Safety

With an impressive crash-test score, the 2020 Honda Civic is an ideal pick where safety is a top priority. All Civic comes with a range of driver-assistance features, including forward collision warning and automatic high-beams. Honda impressively houses these features in the Honda Sensing technology. Here are the main safety features:

  • Responsive adaptive cruise control
  • Best-in-class lane-keeping aid
  • Receptive automated emergency braking

Warranty

If you desire good warranty coverage, a competitor like Hyundai Elantra might be your best bet. Honda leaves much to be desired of its routine maintenance — one feature that gives competitors like Toyota Corolla more advantage.

  • It 60,000 miles or a 5-year powertrain warranty
  • 36,000 miles or 3-year limited warranty
  • No routine maintenance.

If you seek a stroke of fun and sophistication in a compact car, you may want to try the Mazda 3. Talking upper trim, Mazda 3 gives off a large of luxury. It also comes with an all-wheel drive. Mazda 3 competes favorably with the Civic hatchback when driving fun is factored. But talking cargo space, Civic wins.

Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic have been arch-rivals for many years. But Corolla’s complete design-overhaul in its 2020 model should give Civic some sleepless night.

Corolla’s new product comes with a well-improved handling, better quality cabin and remarkable easy when using the infotainment display system.

But when fuel economy, acceleration, and space are key considerations, the Honda Civic is preferred.

If you think Civic’s size is impressive but for its fuel consumption, then the insight should cut it. When it comes to practicality, the Honda Insight offers as much as it’s Civic cousin, but a lot more with its electrified powertrain.

It also comes with an infotainment system adjudged more intuitive than Civic’s former interface. However, Insight’s key turnoff is in its slower acceleration and price tag.

Is Honda Civic a Good Car For Me?

Preference varies across users’ needs. A lot of factors come to play when deciding whether this Honda series is your best bet. Fuel efficiency, safety scores, cargo capacity, and available features are front-role factors to consider.
